Typically only one motion detector is part of a packaged home security system kit. That is why investing in a couple of more motion detectors for both inside and outside the home is well worth it. Let’s take a look at infrared (IR) motion detectors.
An IR motion detector has a sensor that detects the infrared radiation produced by body heat. This kind of heat can be detected, but not seen by the human eye alone. Ideally an IR motion detector will be so advanced that it will trigger an alarm only when the detected heat has the correct temperature, motion, and timing associated with an intruder, thus safeguarding against false alarms. This means the detector will reject false alarms caused by spot temperature changes such as small to medium sized animals, air conditioners, or moving curtains. Remember, not only should you want your IR motion detector to be advance, but easy to install as well.
The placement of your infrared motion detectors is just as important as the selection you make. Of course, such detectors should be placed in vulnerable areas both downstairs and upstairs (given you have a two-story house). This way you can protect the area leading to the second floor and leading to certain bedrooms.
